We are a fun group of mountain bikers out to have a good time. You will find that we have riders of all levels of fitness and ability. Mountain biking is a great way to exercise and is a lot easier on the joints than other activities like running and racquet sports.

Please see our When page for times and locations for rides.

Wow, with all these rides to choose from there is no reason not to try mountain biking! If you don’t have a bike, please let us know, we may be able to scrounge one up for you. As always, helmets are required to ride with our group and we obey the basic cycling rules of the road (or dirt as the case may be).

If you don’t ride but have friends or co-workers that do, please forward this information to them. Contact me by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for additional info.

See you on the trails!

It wasn't easy, but I managed to corral 14 of you on October 5 to come to the FireBox BBQ in Bedford to eat, drink, and reminisce about the year's rides. The kind people at FireBox provided the dinner fare which included pork ribs, BBQ chicken, pulled pork, BBQ baked beans, sweet potato pods, macaroni and cheese, and corn bread. Service was provided by Brian, one of the owners, and he made every effort to make us all happy. Kudos, man!

Now onto the awards. This year's awards (in no particular order):

1. Most Pregnant While Riding - Sarah Cortese
2. Lawrence Nightingale Award - Neil Mager
3. Service Award - Steve Cortese
4. Parts is Parts Award - Dave Riley
5. I'm At the End of My Rope Award - Rob Brown
6. Best Acrobatic Mountain Biking Award - Ira Cummings
7. The Whistling Dixie Award - Peter Fathallah
8. Most Miles Biked in Utero Award - Baby Cortese
9. Outstanding Trail Maintenance Award - Jim Powers

Got a photo and a short video clip provided by Jim. Hope to see more of you for the Spring Opener!

NEMBA MTB Video Award Night PDF Print E-mail

After being on hiatus for the past few years, NEMBA brought back the MTB Video Awards. This year it took place in the Regent Theater in Arlington on Jan 29th. It was catered by Redbones, who served up their usual selection of great food – pulled pork sandwiches, grilled veggies and mashed potatoes as well as Harpoon, who donated all the beer proceeds to NEMBA. There was also a raffle for some really great prizes including the new Kona Tanuki and a couple of high-end forks. The usual swag toss also occurred with tee shirts and tires thrown haphazardly into the crowd. Best thing was, we had a great showing of the Tread! Ben, Doug, Kim, Ira, Scott and myself. The award winners were:

Best Production
Kennedy Park Solo by Jake Berry

Best Action
Yard Bike or Die by Mike Feeney

Best Plot
I Didn't Pump My Tire by Brad Herder

Best Scenic New England XC Riding
Fall Mountain Bike Classic by Tony Lee

The People's Choice
One Speed Jasper by Peter Gengler

First Ride of 2011 PDF Print E-mail

This past Saturday saw our return to Great Brook Farm State Park in Carlisle. Thanks to Dave Riley for kicking it off with an early ride at 9:00 am, but most of the riders (in fact, all of the other riders) decided to ride at 1:00 pm. Five turned out for that ride so six in all rode that day. We covered about seven miles in a couple of hours, just fine to start breaking in the legs again. We had one fall in the mud (me) and one mechanical that was pretty severe but was taken care of enough to keep riding. Looking forward to starting up the official season this week!

Willowdale Birthday/Sendoff PDF Print E-mail

Our first trip to Willowdale this year was fantastic! There were an amazing 17 riders present to help celebrate Chris' 40th birthday as well as being called up for active duty from the National Guard. Godspeed, Chris, our best wishes and prayers go with you. Due to the efforts of local riders like Paul Wallace, the trails are well-groomed, maintained and interconnected, providing a nice flow from one to the other. Smoother in general than the trails at Great Brook, Willowdale offers a lot of short, steep climbs and optional tricks like log rolls, ramps and natural features like climbable rocks. Thanks especially to Paul Wallace and Dick Morse who hosted the after-ride festivities. Mmmm, fresh steamers! Make sure to check out the photo spread on our See page.
